Visit my Bazaar Booth!

Happy December! It has been a busy year for Tiny Happy Clay. After participating in the EAST Austin Studio Tour for my first year, I immediately moved my shelves and work to a booth located at 6100 Airport Blvd. (Austin, TX) in the Blue Genie Art Bazaar.

They are open from 10 am - 10 pm everyday from now until Christmas Eve---so you have plenty of time to find the perfect, quirky gift made by local artisans!!! Did I mention the amazing selection? Over 200 artists!

In addition to the BGAB, I am also now stocking some mugs and ornaments at The Ginger Root, a fun little shop located in North Austin off of Burnet Rd. Official address is 2105 Justin Ln. Check their FB page here - it is such a cute shop with a great vibe. Happy Shopping!

Hi, How Are You?

Hi, How Are You on this rainy, blue Monday in Austin?

I'm excited to show off my new mugs based on the mural by Daniel Johnston on Guadalupe and 21st by UT. Please shoot me an email if you would like to purchase one, I will be updating local Austin places that will carry them soon. I also have a mug version of the I Love You So Much mural on the side of Jo's Coffee Shop on South Congress. These make great Austin Souvenirs or gifts! The designs are actually etched into the wet clay and a heart shaped stamp is featured on top of each handle. (I'd also love feedback on which one you like better the top brushed green or the bottom peeled paint green texture?)

We had a great 2nd weekend for the West Austin Studio Tour and want to thank everyone for coming out. The evening was topped off by a great jazz quartet band named Kallu Combo! Also, thank you Mariel Fogel and Dawn Winter for showing your work at my studio!

Monday, April 10, 2017

I've been working on new stuff for some upcoming shows. This April I will be in a group exhibition at the Coop Gallery in my home town of San Angelo, Texas. It is April 21-22nd in conjunction with the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Ceramic Invitational opening. I've got a lovely platter, a yard cat sculpture and some mugs planned to display.

This bird fruit platter was made by rolling a slab of clay and then applying underglaze and stamping for texture. After it dried on a hump mold, it was bisque fired. Then I applied more underglaze and hand-painted the bird image over the top. Clear glaze was added and then it was glaze fired to 05.
I enjoyed creating this piece because it allowed me to play with screen printing (polka dots and some stars on the bottom of the platter) and to explore asymmetry. I found it refreshing and satisfying to create a functional piece with rough, torn edges, and hope to continue in this vein with my hand-built work!

In May, I'm getting ready to open my studio doors for the annual West Austin Studio Tour...stay tuned for details!

Hello March

Where did February go? I spent the first week of it preparing for my son's Birthday celebration, and the rest, slowly building up my inventory, not to mention restocking mugs and TX dishes at Sugar and Paris on South Congress.
New camera mugs.
I miss living with pets (sometimes) and this mug is representative of that longing for a cat to curl up with!
New yard/garden art sculptures. Cute slab-built cats with a funky folk artsy feel! I've got a whole series of these in the works, playing with sizes and designs!
Decal mug featuring a butterfly in the center and then two halves of another butterfly - one on either side.
Front of the mug has some decals cut and applied over glaze.
Back of the mug has a tiger balancing on an incised geometric pattern.

Pine wood derby car my son and husband built with a little paint help by me. He won the most creative award! It is a wedge of cheese with 2 mice :)

My daughter at the Zilker Botanical Gardens.
